Saturday and Sunday, 2011 were made alongside the Precious Metal series, at a time when I was interested in hair and teeth as forms of decoration and embellishment, particularly within Southern culture. Saturday depicts scenes of fighting, while Sunday shows a young child having her hair braided. Both came from experiences and images that were familiar to me.

I later combined the drawings into a repeating toile wallpaper. I was drawn to toile because of its associations with refinement, traditional interiors, and cultural taste. Rather than reproduce its familiar pastoral scenes, I used the tradition to picture experiences from my own cultural world.
