250 Years from Mr. Freedman Works on paper

This series of rust paintings on paper introduces the principal figures in Williams July 4th solo exhibition, 250 Years From Mr. Freedman: the Charleston Eagle, the crow, the grasshopper, the branded hog, and the palmetto rose window. Each painting translates a corresponding relief into oxidation on paper. The oxidation develops differently with each work, producing surfaces, tonal shifts, and markings that cannot be repeated. Together, the paintings offer another material expression of Mr. Freedman's story.
