Coruscus, 2015, New York, N.Y.
Sculptures: Plaster, Polished Bronze, Hair Gel, 4x4x4 in.
Coruscus encapsulates a collection of small sculptures and ornate installations that play between scientific curiosity and perverse deformation, cutting into the anatomy of Southern Rap. The exhibition focuses on two major embellishments that extend from the body: a mouth full of gold teeth and a head laced with weave. These appendages share a concealed fragility in their make-up. Underneath a tenacious ornament exists a delicate, quivering organism. Fletcher’s jaw breaking constructions are used to magnify the vulnerability of these appendages and expose their innate beauty.
